About the ATA
The Australian Trucking Association is the national voice of the trucking industry. The ATA’s members include state and sector trucking associations, the Transport Workers Union and some of Australia’s largest logistics companies.
The ATA’s General Council includes elected representatives of owner-drivers and small fleet operators as well, so the ATA is able to speak for the whole industry on issues like safety, the need for good roads and the importance of better training.
The ATA is not an industrial relations organisation, and does not deal with issues where employers and their employees have different interests.
The ATA can do its job because of the support of our member organisations and companies, our sponsors, and especially our foundation sponsors: BP, Volvo and NTI.
What the ATA does
The ATA puts the industry’s case to the Australian Government and regulators on issues like:
- road safety, where we are arguing for better speed management, safer level crossings, uniform fatigue laws and more rest areas;
- better regulation, including the need for national heavy vehicle laws; and
- more road access for larger and safer trucks, to boost the industry’s productivity and reduce congestion
You can find out more at the ATA's main website.
The ATA runs the industry’s leading business and safety management system, TruckSafe. Companies in TruckSafe have to meet tough standards and are audited regularly. TruckSafe operators are twice as safe as non-accredited operators.
Meanwhile, delegate registrations are open for the 2010 Australian Trucking Convention, which will focus on providing trucking operators with practical business, safety and regulatory advice. One of the highlights of the convention will be the presentation of the 2010 National Trucking Industry Awards: you can nominate your industry legend now.
The ATA operates the Road Ahead, a state-of-the-art semitrailer filled with interactive displays about career opportunities in the trucking industry and road safety.
